\n<\/strong>I don’t know what the going rate is for tradesmen like plumbers, electricians, car mechanics, in 2010. The last time we needed a plumber a couple of years ago,\u00a0he charged $95\u00a0just to visit to assess the problem and provide a quote! <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

How can you save money on computer repairs?
\n<\/strong><\/span>Before your computer technician comes on site you can perform\u00a0some simple tasks on your computer in order to reduce\u00a0the amount of time our\u00a0tech has to spend on site at your business or residence.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

1. Backup your data
\n<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span>Typical\u00a0folders may include:\u00a0
\n\u00a0– My Documents and subfolders
\n\u00a0– My Pictures and\u00a0My Music\u00a0
\n\u00a0– Favourites and\u00a0E-Mail data and files<\/p>\n

2. Update applications<\/strong><\/span>
\n\u00a0–\u00a0If you are able, update your anti virus program files and definitions
\n\u00a0–\u00a0Perform a detailed system scan and note any problems<\/p>\n

\u00a03.\u00a0Keep your discs handy<\/strong>
\n<\/span>\u00a0–\u00a0Software discs and license keys
\n\u00a0–\u00a0Usernames and passwords that we’ll\u00a0need to troubleshoot the issue
\n\u00a0–\u00a0Documentation and manuals that may\u00a0relate to the job
\n\u00a0\u00a0 (e.g. printer,\u00a0monitor\u00a0and camera manuals)<\/p>\n

4. Record Error Messages
\n<\/strong>Create a Bonza Tech<\/strong> folder where you can save a list of anomolies.\u00a0If you’re able to get a screenshot of the message save\u00a0the image into this folder.<\/span>

\nRepairing Damaged Hardware:<\/span><\/strong>
\nParts inside a computer don’t break very often. In a laptop, some parts break very easily, like AC adapter jacks. In a desktop computer, parts can overheat and get damaged, like the processor, where heat builds up the most. When things like this break, you will have to replace the part.\u00a0You can buy the part yourself or buy it from Bonza (we carry common computer parts\u00a0in our vans). Whichever you choose you can expect our technician to be on site for at least an hour.<\/p>\n

Keeping\u00a0your computer clean is the most important part of computer hardware maintenance.\u00a0Be sure the power is off and the computer is unplugged before you start cleaning it! You should clean the external parts of a computer, like the monitor and the mouse, at least every few\u00a0months. You should clean the internal components every\u00a0year, as dust builds up inside the computer. In most cases, if you have cleaned a part and it’s still not working, either you need to replace the part or the problem is not with the hardware of the computer but with its software.<\/p>\n

Repairing Software:<\/span><\/strong>
\nIf you’re having problems with software, the first thing\u00a0is to determine which piece of software you’re having the problem with. So, if you can’t run any programs on your computer without, for example, everything running very slowly, then the operating system is most likely to blame. If everything else works fine, but your word processor does not register keystrokes on the keyboard, then the problem is with the word processor.<\/p>\n

To fix problems like this,\u00a0first save your work and restart the program. If the problem persists, you should restart the computer. Also, if the problem appears to be with the operating system, you should restart the computer. If the problem doesn’t go away, the easiest thing to do is to uninstall the program from your computer (after saving your files) and then reinstall the program. You can do this with the operating system too. If none of this works, consult\u00a0your Bonza computer technician.<\/p>\n
