When you search on Google, would it be good if the results pages changed as you type? <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

Google’s<\/strong> search changes does just that.\u00a0It has already been rolled out in the USA, UK, Russia and France,\u00a0maybe others, but not here (not in Oz yet!).<\/p>\n

Google Instant<\/strong>\u00a0provides search results pages (SERPS) with every keystroke. You may find exactly what you\u2019re looking for before you even finish typing your query!<\/p>\n

Google’s predictive search<\/em> feature is still\u00a0there\u00a0but\u00a0appears in grey text directly in the search box, so you can stop typing as soon as you see what you’re looking for.<\/p>\n

We already have predictive search; <\/em><\/strong>as you type, Google predicts what you\u2019re looking for and presents a dropdown to match your intention, you click on the closest match and the results are there. Often, the results aren\u2019t what you\u2019re looking for and you scroll down the page looking for a closer match or you go back to refine your search query. With Google Instant<\/strong> results are returned faster and\u00a0Google’s predictions are\u00a0smarter.<\/p>\n

When we finally have it rolled out here, it might take a while to adapt to the change so luckily it can be turned off\u00a0by clicking the link next to the search box on any search results page, or by visiting your preferences.<\/p>\n

Google is always tweaking but this year in particular we\u2019ve seen substantial changes. <\/strong><\/p>\n

1. The May Day algorithm: \u00a0<\/strong>An algorithmic change, not a search or ranking change, targeted at long tail search queries.\u00a0Because\u00a0 about 54.5% of user queries are greater than 3 words Google wants higher quality sites to\u00a0appear for long tail queries. The change seems to have primarily impacted very large sites with \u201citem\u201d pages that don\u2019t have many individual links\u00a0pointing to\u00a0them, or pages that are located\u00a0several clicks away from the home page, and pages that don’t\u00a0have substantial unique and value-added content on them.
\n2.<\/strong> Then came <\/strong>Caffeine<\/strong><\/a>,<\/strong>\u00a0the new crawling and indexation infrastructure change\u00a0which had little impact on\u00a0most<\/em> people.
\n3.<\/strong>\u00a0 And now, the biggest change of all, Google Instant.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every time there’s a\u00a0change\u00a0alarm bells <\/span>go off in the online professional community. <\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

How will it impact on SEO and Pay Per Click? How can businesses take advantage……<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

We can’t tell what Instant<\/strong> will do to search engine optimisation or PPC\u00a0yet, but if we’re smart we’ll see and understand\u00a0what Google is trying to achieve –\u00a0help searchers find information and results quickly<\/strong>. That’s not new, it’s always what they’ve been about!\u00a0 All we can do is follow their lead and provide exactly that; stuff and information people are looking for, match their search queries and hopefully be ranked at the top of results.<\/p>\n
