{"id":3055,"date":"2010-10-28T16:39:53","date_gmt":"2010-10-28T06:39:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bonzamobilecomputerrepairs.com\/blog\/?p=3055"},"modified":"2011-01-22T10:54:31","modified_gmt":"2011-01-22T00:54:31","slug":"google-news-local-business-ads-on-google-places","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/bonzamobilecomputerrepairs.com\/blog\/?p=3055","title":{"rendered":"Local Business Ads on Google Places"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Adwords ads\u00a0for Small Local Businesses on Google Maps<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This week\u00a0Google launched a new ad format for Local Businesses called <a href=\"http:\/\/google-latlong.blogspot.com\/2010\/10\/advertise-your-local-business-with.html\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Google Boost<\/strong>.<\/a> Beta testing is underway in a few markets in the US (<em>San Francisco, Houston and Chicago).<\/em>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Google says, <\/strong><span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">&#8220;<em>Boost automatically sets up your ad campaign, figuring out the relevant keywords and how to get the most out of your allotted budget.\u00a0The new feature will allow organisations that have a Google Places account to create search ads quickly and easily<\/em>&#8220;.<\/span>\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0system will automatically create an Ad based on\u00a0your business category and from\u00a0information you provide in\u00a0your Google Places listing.\u00a0You set the <strong>monthly budget<\/strong> and Google determines what search words trigger the ad.\u00a0It appears to be\u00a0a simplified version of an Adwords campaign to help small businesses with their online marketing. Essentially the idea is a Set and Forget formula, just what small businesses need!\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The wording for the ad is automatically extracted from the 200 character description,which you\u00a0can change anytime. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The ad only shows for categories that are in Google&#8217;s category list. Custom categories won&#8217;t show the ad.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The estimated clicks per month will vary depending on market and categories selected. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>T<\/em><em>here is a minimum of $50\/month to start the program.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The only ad title allowed is the business name as defined in Places.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>You only pay when someone clicks on your ad.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Basic ad performance data\u00a0will be\u00a0available\u00a0in your\u00a0Google Places dashboard.<\/em>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div>It remains to be seen whether the automated process produces results for small business and <strong><em>profits for Google<\/em><\/strong>.\u00a0<\/div>\n<div><strong><span style=\"color: #800000;\"><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Personally, I\u00a0think\u00a0allowing Google to manage Adwords spend is a conflict of interest<\/span><span style=\"color: #000000;\">!<\/span><\/span><\/strong><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<div><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n<ul>\n<li>If there\u2019s no bidding or keywords, how will Google rank the ads when multiple businesses are using Boost in\u00a0your area?<\/li>\n<li>Will the highest budget win?<\/li>\n<li>Without a keyword bidding system, how are they going to keep it fair?<\/li>\n<li>If the start-up budget of $50 is insufficient, Google will\u00a0suggest a\u00a0\u201crecommended daily budget\u201d.
