\"Twitter\"<\/a>Are you a Twit yet? <\/strong>I have to admit that in the beginning of all the social media hype a few years ago, I was one of many sceptics and publically said it was all stuff and nonsense.<\/p>\n

Do you \u201cGet\u201d Twitter?<\/strong> \u00a0I could not see the value\u00a0in writing 140 characters of bite size information and have\u00a0anyone\u00a0want to read and respond to it.<\/p>\n

Now you see Follow us on Twitter<\/em>\u2026 everywhere<\/strong>. \u00a0It\u2019s on the evening news, you can tweet your favourite television program. We\u2019ve also seen the power<\/strong> of it during the recent floods in Brisbane, the people\u2019s political upheaval in Egypt and\u00a0other recent world events\u00a0and catastrophes.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

I don\u2019t think there’s any question that Twitter has shown itself to be an incredibly valuable service, especially when it comes to letting people find out what’s going on during major news events.<\/p>\n

Major brands\u00a0like, Dell <\/a>and Samsung<\/a>,\u00a0Jetstar Airways,<\/a> Bigpond, to name a few, are all taking advantage of the free application in order to promote their brand, interact with people and monitor complaints.<\/p>\n

High profile people like the Foreign Minister of Australia, Kevin Rudd, and Leigh Sales<\/a> from 7.30 are twits and even one of my favourite blokes, Stephen Fry, is tweeting up a storm.<\/p>\n

Do\u00a0you still think it’s a \u00a0waste of time and isn\u2019t a priority?<\/strong> Believe me, small businesses are Twittering….Tweeting…Twatting…<\/p>\n

No matter what industry or business you\u2019re in, because of the massive take up of Twitter, at some stage your customers are likely to be discussing your products and services on Twitter. Active Twitter users are using\u00a0tweeting through third party programs, it\u2019s on phones, email clients, websites and on other social networks such as Facebook and Digg. Your customers are already using it to talk about you and you want to be part of that discussion.<\/p>\n

If you\u2019re not on Twitter already you probably should be!<\/strong><\/p>\n

There are a number of tools you can use to make the task easier, I’m now interacting with it through other applications that integrate other social media which means I’m not actually logged into my Twitter account.<\/p>\n

TweetDeck <\/strong><\/a>is the most useful application for managing <\/strong>Twitter<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0I\u2019ve found.<\/strong> It looks\u00a0complicated to the untrained eye, but once you get\u00a0through the learning curve, it’s a great time saver.\u00a0 Here’s a\u00a0link to\u00a0Tweetdeck tutorials<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Tweetadder<\/a> <\/strong>is also a good tool too but I’d be careful using the automated submission tools, particularly since the Google Panda update.<\/a><\/p>\n

Twitpic <\/a><\/strong>is a website that allows\u00a0you to easily post pictures to the Twitter microblogging and social media service.\u00a0If you\u2019re a member of Twitter, then you\u2019re already a member of Twitpic. You can post photos from your smartphone or the site itself. Many people used it to post photos during the Brisbane floods.<\/p>\n
