Your Computer’s Carbon Footprint – Remote Computer Repairs
Published October 16th, 2010 by Roslyn Garavaglia

How’s your carbon footprint?

Working on computers seems pretty harmless when in fact computing has a monster carbon footprint.  We computer users are contributing to nearly 2.7 percent of Australia’s total carbon emissions and more than 7 percent of total energy consumption in Australia. Computing and telecommunication devices use large amounts of energy adding substantially to greenhouse gas emissions.

“There has been little attempt to measure or to estimate the total energy consumption or carbon footprint caused by the usage of ICT equipment, in Australia or internationally”. Source: The Australian Computer Society (ACS)

The ACS set about to research the statistics for Australia and compiled these results.

Device % of CO2
Desktop PCs, Laptop and Notebooks 15.8%
Terminals & Thin Clients, Servers 14.7%
Networking Equipment 7.0%
Games Consoles 5.5%
Video Monitors 9.7%
Data Centre Storage 1.5%
Printers & Imaging Equipment 15.7%
Landline Telephone Equipment 1.7%
Mobile Devices 1.0%
Data Centre Environment 18.8%
Network Infrastructure 8.6%

What about on site Computer Repairs?

Your Bonza Mobile Computer Repair technician is barrelling down the highway to your place to fix your computer right now…

  • Is his trip really necessary?
  • Is there an equally effective way we can resolve your computer problem?
  • Can we help reduce your and our company’s carbon footprint?

Hmmm, you’re probably thinking our vehicle emissions are Bonza’s contribution to global warming…… and you’re right, but you’re partly responsible too! Because there is an alternative to onsite computer repairs, Remote computer repairs, yet the take up in Australia is very slow compared to the rest of the world.

Shame on us since Australia is one of the biggest carbon emitters per capita in the world!

So, let’s help each other reduce carbon emissions…..by reducing our travel we will not only reduce CO2 but also improve efficiency as well as reduce your I.T. maintenance costs.

It’s a Win-Win situation I can’t understand why Australians are so reluctant.

Fixing computers remotely is safe and secure, more cost effective and means less downtime for you.

Our Computer technicians connect securely to your computer using an advanced screen sharing program.  It’s safe and you are in control for the duration. Say you see the technician peek into a file that holds secure data you don’t want him to see (ours wouldn’t and others shouldn’t), you can cancel the connection right away. You see when you’re having your computer repaired remotely, you’ll be able to see the repair taking place right before your eyes. It’s pretty sexy stuff! You’ll be astonished seeing how fast the tech whizzes around your computer.

You’re not left with a ghost, your tech is still available for questions through a chat window or the phone if you need him.

Instead of reliquishing your seat to an onsite technician, you stay put, watch and get your computer working now! No waiting…

Next time you have a computer problem, give the remote method a try.  There’s nothing to lose and such a convenience to gain.

Visit Bonza Remote there’s more information there about how fixing computers remotely works.
