This a common networking problem which can result in intermittent communications or unusable network operations.
What is an “IP address conflict”?
It’s when someone on your network is using, or trying to use, the same IP address as you.
When IP addresses are statically assigned (fixed) on the LAN (local area network) each computer should be assigned a unique IP address. The conflict arises if the system administrator assigns the same IP address to more than one computer.
If your system administrator assigns a computer static IP address within the local network’s dynamic range (DHCP) and the same address is automatically assigned by the LAN DHCP server, a malfunction can occur when the server allows the same dynamic address to be automatically assigned to multiple computers.
Your router could have a faulty DHCP server causing IP conflicts. In which case you might have to upgrade the router firmware to resolve the problem.
