Google is about Meaning NOT Keywords
Published October 18th, 2013 by Roslyn Garavaglia Comments Off on Google is about Meaning NOT Keywords

After 15 years Google’s search algorithm has been changed. It’s not an update, it’s not another Panda, it’s a brand new algorithm!

Hummingbird-Google-new-Search-Algorithm-670x415

Whereas the old search algorithm tried to match instances of words in Google’s index, Hummingbird tries to understand the meaning behind each search query.

HOORAY! Nothing much has really changed except Google trying to change the mindset.

Google has always had the same intention; to deliver the best results for a search query, so that the user is satisfied and informed. SEO’s have crowed “content is king” and “you need fresh content” and “be relevant”, and more recently, “social media…….” advice to clients on how best to help their website and business achieve the best outcomes online.

Finally, the focus shifts from keywords and rankings to content and meaning which is what Google has been saying forever. All those updates over the years were an attempt to to rid the index of search manipulators and other predators who tried to game the system…. they prevailed, so  Google decided to replace the algorithm itself. If you’ve been doing the right thing all along, there’s not much to worry about.

Ask yourself these 3 questions to see if you’re in sync with Google’s new thinking;

1. Content Quality: Is the content I am presenting to the user a thorough and comprehensive answer to their question/problem?

2. Look and Feel: Am I appealing to both the text/informational side of the searcher’s brain and the visual side of the brain?

3. Site structure/Navigation: Have I made it easy for visitors to find content beyond the page they landed on?

Can you see there’s nothing much new?

A static web site that never changes and/or self-serving advertising that doesn’t engage users, will not do well in search results.

Fresh and non-promotional content that engages your audience and tells them what they want to know is the “new normal” on the web.

When normal data backup is not enough….
Published May 21st, 2011 by Roslyn Garavaglia Comments Off on When normal data backup is not enough….

Anthony and I went on our bi-annual holiday last weekend, down to Kingscliffe midday Saturday, home and refreshed midday Sunday… ho hum…

We met up with our dear friend Angie who was visiting from Christchurch, NZ. She had been at work in her 7th story office when the recent earthquake devastated that city. Angie and other staff were lucky to be rescued by a team using a crane, and were lifted out of the 7th floor balcony to safety after some terrifying hours in limbo.

Her office building is still a “no go” zone, so, although all their business data is intact, they cannot access it. They’re trying to pick up the pieces of their business the best way they can. From memory! Hopefully they’ll be back to normal one day soon.

Angie’s brother, on the other hand, lost everything. A complete wipe out. He lost his offices, equipment and files – everything he needs to keep his organisation going. Luckily, no personnel were injured or killed.

Within 48 hours Simon was back in business!

How did he do it while others are still struggling? (more…)

‘Get your hand off it, Darryl’

Remember The Castle? The funniest Australian comedy.

Darryl Kerrigan went straight to Australia’s heart – a down-to-earth battler, true blue, believing in The Highest Principle the government cannot evict a man from his home – his Castle.

For many years Bonza has supported Variety, the children’s charity because of every dollar donated, 88c goes directly to profoundly disabled Queensland children.  (more…)

The internet and mobiles are to blame and instant coffee and teabags! Instant communication, instant online wherever we are …..How many times have you been frustrated with a slow computer? Tapped your fingers waiting for a slow download? What’s wrong with taking a deep breath and relaxing looking out the window and dreaming for a minute? Waiting for the tea to brew and the coffee to perk… (more…)

Donate to the disaster relief appeal – Qld Floods
Published January 21st, 2011 by Roslyn Garavaglia Comments Off on Donate to the disaster relief appeal – Qld Floods

Bonza is fortunate not to have been affected by the recent floods. Wayne, our IT Manager, came within  just two driveways from inundation and had a raging river running along his back fence. He was one of the lucky ones.

All of us at Bonza would like to express our deepest sympathies to Queenslanders who have lost their homes and businesses in this disaster.

In the spirit of the Bonza Community, I hope you don’t mind me listing all the specialist tradespeople who are a part of the Bonza family. Some of you might need their services now and down the track. (more…)

Frances Whiting: A Bonza Sheila!
Published March 19th, 2010 by Roslyn Garavaglia Comments Off on Frances Whiting: A Bonza Sheila!

As you know, only discerning people view The Bonza Blog and, as such, we’re sure you enjoyed Frances Whiting’s recent column.

With the kind permission of The Sunday Mail, we refresh your memory of yet another pearl from Frances:

http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/opinion/run-rings-around-tiffany/story-e6freref-1225835043246

As you can see, Frances retains all her powers.

The immediate response from Bonza was an email Subject: An alternative sponsor to Tiffany’s.

“As if Tiffany’s would miss the chance of having Frances Whiting running in a Jean Schlumberger Egg charm! Get back to work.” Came the response from Ros.

That woman is so negative.

“Thanks so much Anthony, that’s great news. Very happy!” Came the response from Frances!

“If you’re in the marketing caper, and are in between gigs, it may not be a bad idea to fire off the old resume to Tiffany’s around about now.”

It gets better.

“Also Lycra Woman is happy to run in one of your shirts too.” Frances emailed on.

Thanks to photographer Jamie Hanson and The Sunday Mail, here are

Our lovely Max is!

Most Bonza clients have been lucky to meet Max and some had him as their dedicated computer technician. Everybody loves Max! He is not only a good technician but a great guy. Some of our clients were even lining up their daughters. It’s hard to resist his Spanish charm isn’t it?  Well ladies, I claimed him my surrogate son first! (more…)

Bonza’s Missing Computer Technician

Wayne’s going awol!

That’s right folks, our Senior Technician is (irresponsibly) taking off to India (leaving us in the lurch) at the end of this month for 4 whole weeks.

You and the whole Bonza Team are going to miss him terribly. Fact is, Wayne hasn’t had a proper holiday since he started working after he finished his studies!

With the right style of beard and long hair he can easily pass himself off as a local Sikh or even a Saddhu so we don’t expect him to encounter any problems over there apart from Delhi belly. (more…)
